As the name suggests, The Swallowed Market is a bizarre bazaar located in the belly of a great and ancient whale.The market is the creation of a doomed sailor who was accidentally consumed by the great beast, a crafty, scoundrel named Gingham Moody. Known for his colorful, checked fabric pants, Moody’s ship was swallowed by the whale that he dubbed, ‘The Dick’.

While his ship was destroyed in the crash, Moody was able to build a shelter from the wreckage and found he wasn't alone. He encountered a handful of other survivors from the whale’s previous meals who were desperate and weak with hunger. Moody, ever the clever businessman, sold the remains of his deceased crew to the other folks in The Dick’s belly. Soon more poor souls were swallowed, and Moody kept his business growing. Eventually it dawned on Moody that while they were in dire straits, they were also sitting on a valuable, renewable goldmine of whale oil, if he only had some way to escape and pull in new customers. Finally Moody convinced a lackey to escape through the deadly whale’s blowhole, tasked to return with new victim/customers, and the Swallowed Market was born.

Today The Swallowed Market is a legendary center of commerce for criminals, pirates, politicians, creatures, and villains. Working with a crew on land known as the Lighthouse Boys, The Dick is led near to ports and harbors, and a demon ferryman collects the Red Coins of true sinners to ferry them into the whale’s open jaws.

Around the ramshackle market you can find odd stalls like The Handseller, who offers the preserved hands of the infamous and powerful. There is The Offal Kitchen which is always serving mystery meat in addition to the rarest ingredients from around the globe. And Ng Hanna’s Trinkets which offers one-of-a-kind odds and ends, all guaranteed to be curse-free (no refunds). And of course the whole operation is still overlooked by old Gingham Moody, now a literal skeleton who can be found gambling for souls on a barrel top in the massive Flotsam Arms Tavern.
