History: Movies bring dreams to life, and within the walls of the Avalon-Strand Theater, the dilapidated old picture house in Barker, Pennsylvania, that is terribly, grotesquely true. All the locals know to cross the street when passing by the old Avalon-Strand, because even passing beneath that haunting marquee is bad luck.

Not even the oldest locals remember a time when the theater was open for business, but the legends of the place still spread throughout every new generation with crystal clarity. Everyone in Barker knows a friend’s cousin’s girlfriend’s friend who broke into the boarded-up old theater, who claims to have seen a bloody concessions stand, howling specters serving up popping teeth and candied flesh. Those brave enough to venture further might even claim to have sat in the 13th Row, a vantage point that will allow you to see your heart’s desire projected on the old movie screen. Unfortunately these fantasies and dreams have a bad habit of stepping off the screen and driving you mad before finally dragging you screaming into the Dream Dimension.

Of course there's truth in the legends, but none have actually escaped to tell the whole of the story. None talk of the Dream Egg that grows in the old projection booth, feeding on the dreams of trespassers and threatening to hatch a new nightmare into the waking world, or of the ghoulish projectionist, the undead corpse of the Avalon-Strand’s original owner, who cares for the egg even in death. Nor do they mention the living portal that sits behind the screen, a writhing mass of translucent dreamskin connecting the egg to its home plane, or the Wolfen Penitent, a demon that camps in the balcony, guarding the birth of its new god and frightening even the theater’s ghosts.

The Avalon-Strand Theater doesn’t just give locals nightmares, it threatens to bring them to life.
