Hidden or Lost?: No

History: The Clapper Building is the world-famous headquarters of the beloved 1970s super-team, The Wonder Five!

In 1972, the world’s most powerful individuals were brought together by ultragenius Dr. Joel Clapper, better known by his crime-fighting moniker: Gray Master. Using super-sociology, a discipline of his own invention, Clapper developed a system that he believed would lead to the rebirth of an orderly world. He called it the Pentastar of Peace, a symbol and diagram that placed a protector over five stations, each representing a different domain of justice.

While Gray Master himself presided over Science and Super-Knowledge, he was joined by The Suit, a gifted lawyer and master of verbal subterfuge who presided over Bad Business; Waves, a peaceful Aquarian merboy who came to land in order to spread love, was placed in charge of Aquatics; Lady Presto, the mistress of the mystic, presided over the Supernatural and Ghostly; and finally there was Clawtessa, queen of the jungle, who watched over the Natural World. Together The Wonder Five fought crime across the globe, protecting the innocent and spreading justice in each of their domains.

Although the team’s ambitions were global, they operated out of their futuristic headquarters, located in the heart of downtown New York City. The Clapper Building was built and funded by Gray Master and it serviced all of the team’s crime-fighting needs. Some of the incredible features included The Supercar Garage where their incredible vehicles like the Claw-Copter and The Suit’s Talking Limo were serviced and stored; there was Gray Master’s Illumilab where he could go to invent new serums, treat wounded team members, and ponder clues; and there was Waves’ Groovy Grotto where the merboy could rehydrate, and the rest of the team could take five and relax.

While Gray Master’s scheme didn’t eradicate injustice as he had hoped, the Clapper Building still stands as an impossible monument to his heroic dream, waiting for new heroes to take up the mission and help the Pentastar shine again.
