Hidden or Lost?: Condemned

History: First established in 1968, Anagen Laboratories was the brainchild of Dr. Ethan Sommerville, who made it his life's work to unlock the secrets of hair loss, before discovering a far darker truth about baldness.

Obsessed with finding a solution to the indignities of hair loss, Sommerville delved into the deep history of follicle repair, even going back to ancient, 5,000-year-old writings, until finally he found what he thought were the answers he was looking for. It was in a mystical history written by an ancient Cretan astrologer that he found mention of a forgotten Olympian deity known as Dyphagon. This lost god was said to have cursed humanity to lose their hair, and with it their hope for immortality. According to the folklore, the shed hair was a reminder of humanity’s mortal season, bringing with it shame, loneliness, and despair.

Sommerville lost himself in the study of ancient mystery cults, vile rituals, and the buried history of hateful Dyphagon. He became convinced that if he could discover the secrets of hair loss, he could discover the secrets of immortality. To further his studies, he even began experimenting with dark powers, mixing blasphemous mysticism with his mid-century science. The results were undeniable.

In the decades of its existence, Anagen Labs has evolved into Somerville’s sadistic workshop, where unsuspecting patients enter looking to save their hair, but end up succumbing to undying horrors or tossed aside as failed test subjects. Among the many terrible sights found in the secret corridors of Anagen Labs are the carnivorous clouds of microscopic adhesive particles animated by the Cretan mysteries, which adhere to the skin before pulling it away, stripping flesh from bone one particle at a time; there are The Grafted, patients who are fused to mechanical armatures, ever seeking out healthy hair and violently ripping it from the donor; or one might encounter The Skink, a completely hairless ex-patient and thrall of Sommerville who hides in the walls.

Then there is Sommerville himself, who has been granted unnatural longevity by Dyphagon. The doctor is now encased in a cocoon of animated hair that he manipulates as though they were one billion tiny fingers, surging into the mouth or eyes of intruders.

Dr. Ethan Somerville has rechristened himself the ‘Lord of Follicles’ and continues to reign over Anagen Labs as his terrible kingdom, patiently awaiting the regrowth of his dark god.
