History: The spirits within the Candelabra Estate are not just unquiet, they are planning.

The sprawling English manor house known as the Candelabra Estate was first built generations ago by matchstick magnate Simon Candelabra and his devoted lover, Eli. In life, Simon and Eli were devoted spiritualists, believers in the spirit world as a place you could return from. Believers that death wasn't the end. They built their estate to be a spiritualist mecca, inviting renowned psychics and so-called necrosensitives to the grounds for séances, fortune readings, and summonings. All of their theatrical dabbling was in an effort to discover and control the secrets of the spirit world, even resorting to murder and mutilation in their quest. Yet before they were able to fully understand what lies beyond, they died.

To Simon and Eli's delight they found that they had been correct, and they were now spirits on the other side of the veil. Unfortunately they also discovered that their spirits were tied to the estate grounds, seemingly for eternity. The afterlife was real, but it was a prison.

Undeterred, the pair got to work. They found out how to manifest in the world of the living and how to touch physical objects. They honed their skills for years, haunting and even killing generations of the Candelabra lineage who would inherit the estate, before joining them on the other side. As the ranks of the Candelabra spirits grew, so did their ambition. Simon wanted more for his brood, coming to believe that spirits were superior to mortals. He even began scheming for ways to escape the estate and wage war on the living. On the other hand, Eli began to see eternity as a kind of purgatory that none should ever have to suffer.

With their ideological lines drawn, Simon and Eli began warring within the estate. Simon would manipulate and deceive each new resident, searching for ways to help them escape, while Eli would sabotage those plans and try to convince the living to work on vanquishing his old flame.

The Candelabra Estate remains hopelessly haunted to this day. Simon is now on the brink of unleashing a plague of spirits on the world, while kind, sad Eli remains the only hope of stopping him.
