History: ‘Monstrous meats for arcane appetites,’ goes the slogan for Moonbarn Farms, and they aren't exaggerating. Located at the dead end of a blasted dirt road, well past the fecund produce crowding the nearby fields, Moonbarn Farms specializes in the kind of livestock most would fear to mention much less consume.

Moonbarn Farms was founded by famed monster hunter Elliot Hemlock. After spending decades eradicating creatures of the night ranging from vampires and hags to old wyrms and demons, Hemlock decided to hang up his boots and retire, but he brought his most shameful secrets with him. Early in his career, Hemlock was hunting yeti in the frozen northern peaks, tracking a particularly vicious specimen that had been terrorizing a local settlement. After a showdown across a snow-covered crag, Hemlock was able to kill the beast, but a sudden blizzard trapped him on the mountain. Taking refuge in a small cave with no supplies, the desperate Hemlock devoured the yeti to survive. He found that it gave him a supernatural strength and stamina, allowing him to survive his descent off the mountain. But after that literal taste of power, he found that he now had a hunger for more.

Hemlock continued sampling the flesh of his kills, consuming nymph bark, goblin eyes, dragon brains, and more. He found that the meat of nearly every magical species, sentient and otherwise, provided different boons and unique sensations.

Eventually, the shame and fear that his ghoulish habits would be found out became too much and he retired to the isolated farmstead of his youth, swearing never to devour another creature. But his abstinence was short-lived. Hemlock soon began buying and trading the meat and bone of monsterkind, quickly becoming the premier source of such products on the black market. As the operation grew, he created the Moonbarn, a large, impenetrable farmhouse, where he summons creatures for slaughter; there are The Night Cages where live specimens are held; a gruesome hanging house, where carcasses are left to dry before rendering; and even a horrific husbandry center where Hemlock crossbreeds creatures in an effort to create super-livestock for harvest.
